Support Grassroots!
Last week we saw the singles and album charts topped by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones proving that age is no barrier to great music - as most members are now in their eighties! But as these acts outsold their chart rivals five to one what does it say about ‘new’ music? Or is it the nostalgia train rolling on?
This week Mike was talking to Nick Capaldi and Chris Kelly (The Scooters) about all the great new music that is out there that we don’t get to hear because of the generic sound-a-like songs that we are force-fed on mainstream media. What’s the answer? Your guess is as good as ours but when we are in a world where the likes of Spotify are allowed to change their payment algorithms so that even less money goes to the ‘smaller’ artists it’s only people like us that can make that difference by shouting out about grass-roots artists and bring them to your attention! Support local, support the new bands coming through because without them, as Chris Kelly says in his forthcoming interview, Rock’n’Roll is dead!
So how can we support bands? Go and see them playing live, buy their music on vinyl or CD, get a tee-shirt - and if money is tight share their social media posts, give them a follow and a ‘like’, tell your friends. One band who are great at this are Holy Coves who recently played The Bunkhouse in Swansea.
A great bunch of guys who were nominated for this year’s Welsh Music Prize and have just re-released their ‘Druids & Bards’ album on coloured vinyl plus a cool range of merch.
If you’d like your own merch talk to us because you’ll be surprised at what we can do for you in terms of products and prices and we are currently working with award-winning artists worldwide helping them get their music and brand out there via radio, print and TV!
So is it just the bands and the fans? No, there’s one very important ingredient missing and that is the venues - without them, we’d be lost, we are proud to be working with the Newbridge Memo, Bourton’s, The Second 45, The Bunkhouse and The Scala who are as passionate about original music as we are. It’s time for us to be the solution and not part of the problem. Time to stand up and be counted so we can get lost in the music!
A massive thank you to everyone we’ve worked with so far this year and everyone who continues to journey with us x
