Music, Mayhem & Good Causes
On March 25th 2023, seven bands did something pretty amazing at Cwmcarn’s Fork & Tune - all to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support. The live music event, co-organised by The Black Vultures frontman Huw Williams and Calling Dakota Drummer Jason Tatton was a huge success raising £1300 - that’s the power of music and music fans.
Calling Dakota kicked off the day with an upbeat set which got the fans going and paved the way for Ethan Jones who played some amazing lead breaks.
The Joker Band played a blinding version of Weezer’s Hash Pipe as part of their set and their charismatic frontman had the audience in the palm of his hand as things really warmed up.
The Black Vultures, if you’re not already aware of them (and you should be) have a more bluesy feel rather than straight out Rock’n’Roll - almost a Welsh Black Keys - and there was some great interaction between the two lead vocalists.
The Lost And Found ripped the place apart with their hi-energy set. These guys have some great songs and really are ones to watch for the future - I loved it when the lead guitarist came out into the crowd. Now there’s a rock star!
As with L&F, Miles Per Minute were relaxed and confident onstage and did a great job of connecting with the audience. Great songs, well played which just highlights the huge wealth of talent Wales has - grassroots music is alive and well in the valleys still.
Ortario closed the day’s event and if we thought it had rocked up until then, we obviously know nothing. Their hard rock set had everyone bouncing and singing along to close, what had been, a truly amazing adventure in music. Great bands, great music, great cause. The hearts of the valleys are huge and this event proved just how much talent, empathy and passion these guys have.
You rock x
