Welsh songstress MACY releases dark-pop hit 'Black Out'
MACY has been releasing and writing her own original music since 2020, and has even been included on the BBC Radio Wales A-List over a dozen times, as well as performing at the BAFTA Cymru Awards in 2023, and making her debut on BBC Radio 1 in 2024. We have the pleasure with working with MACY once again, and this time she's got something new.
Your new single Black Out is finally out, where did you get the inspiration for the song?
The inspiration for Black Out came from wanting to create a darker pop sound. We came up with the title first to really set the vibes for this new sound. I would say this song is about friendships and relationships that would never work, no matter how hard you try.
What's the most fun part of creating a new song?
Collaborating is so much fun. I feel like creating this track was such a fun and interesting process for me. It’s different to my usual bright pop sounds. I felt it was time for a little change.
What are your views on AI music being generated?
I do think it’s cool and it could make the process a little quicker. I hope it will never replace humans being involved. I just hope people don’t lose their jobs because of a robot, haha!
What do you think of the music industry in Wales at the moment? Would you change anything?
I think the music industry in wales has become a community, which is beautiful. I love being a pop artist, but I do think it would be a struggle anywhere in the world! I have been lucky with the support I’ve received from the wales scene, so thank you!
If you were given the choice of something free to add to your release, what would you choose; a release on vinyl? A high quality music video? Or a stack of merchandise to sell?
Definitely a stack of merch! I do love a music video, but I feel short vids are the way forward at the moment!
